The Total Person
When looking for someone to fill a vacant position we most often look at
the Resume, which includes Education, Referrals and Work History. During
the interview process we are able to form opinions based on appearance and
vocal style. While all this is good, it is very LIMITED information, and
accounts for only 10% of the total person. In general, people will only
allow you to see what they want you to see.
The other 90% is made up of Thinking and Reasoning Style, Occupational
Interests and Behavioral Traits.
A Harvard Business Review study of 360,000 employed people showed that a
person's sex, age or Ethnic background had no affect on their job
performance. Quoting "It's not experience that counts, or college degrees
or other accepted factors - success hinges on fit with the job."
